TAG CARE

Tag Care, Safety & Recycling

How to activate, inspect, care for and retire a Privacy Pet Tag.

Last updated: 26 September 2026

Activate and test

Activate and verify the correct pet, preview public details, then test QR and NFC before fitting the tag.

Fit and inspect safely

Secure the split ring to a suitable collar or harness and position it to reduce chewing or snagging. Inspect and test the tag weekly. Remove and replace a loose, cracked, sharp, peeling or unreadable tag. Keep an unattached tag or ring away from children; it is not a toy or chew product.

Cleaning

Clean gently with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid treatment likely to damage the printed QR code, NFC component, coating or attachment point.

Retiring or transferring a tag

Deactivate or reassign promptly if a tag is lost or transferred. Do not simply give an active identifier to another person or pet without using the proper account controls.

Recycling and free take-back

Privacy Pet Tags contain a passive NFC electronic component and should not be placed in ordinary household waste. The crossed-out wheeled-bin symbol means electrical and electronic equipment should be collected separately so that it can be reused or recycled appropriately.

When you obtain a new Privacy Pet Tag from us, we offer free like-for-like take-back of one old equivalent electronic pet identification tag. The old tag can be from another brand, provided it has the same or a similar identification function.

To use the service, email support@privacypettag.com. We will provide a prepaid Royal Mail 2nd Class return label. Remove the metal split ring, keep or recycle it separately, place only the electronic tag in a standard letter envelope, attach the supplied label and post it to us. Please do not send collars, split rings or other accessories.

This like-for-like service is for small electronic pet identification tags. GPS trackers, activity trackers, batteries, collars and unrelated electrical equipment are not covered by this take-back service.

Returned electronic tags will be handled through an appropriate reuse or recycling route. CLJE Ltd is registered as a producer of electrical and electronic equipment. WEEE producer registration number: WEE/MM5915AA.

Other identification

Privacy Pet Tag supplements rather than replaces a microchip or other legally required pet identification.
